An award-winning lecturer and urban historian, Northwestern University Professor Henry Binford specializes in the nineteenth century evolution of sub-communities within cities, including suburbs and slums. He is also interested in efforts to redevelop cities in the twentieth century. His publications include The First Suburbs: Residential Communities on the Boston Periphery, 1815-1860. He has received research support from the National Humanities Center, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Newberry Library. He is a frequent commentator on Chicago public radio and a very popular lecturer.
The round-trip tour departs from the Davis Street El stop in Evanston.
Ample parking is available in the city garage.
Tickets are $150 per person for the exclusive event.
