THE NORTHWEST SUBURBAN GUILD
of
Children's Memorial Hospital
The Northwest Suburban Guild is an affiliated organization of Children’s Memorial Hospital. The Guild was founded in 1976 by a committed group of women dedicated to volunteer work, fundraising, and increasing awareness of Children’s Memorial. Many of the original members had a direct connection with the hospital through experiences with either their own children or children they knew. Our membership has grown to include women interested in the well-being of children now and into the future.
MISSION
To assist Children’s Memorial in its mission of patient care, education, and research by supporting the hospital’s Janice and Kimberly Brown Family Life Center and art therapist which are part of the
Family Services Department.
VOLUNTEERING
The Guild supports the “Reading is Fundamental” program at the hospital by donating new books and distributing them to children once a month in Day Clinics, Oncology, Orthopedics, Hematology, Emergency Room and a few other designated areas. It is extremely fulfilling to see how a simple act of kindness can brighten the day of a very ill child and their family.
FUNDRAISING
The Guild supports the Hospital by a variety of fundraising events. Our signature event is the Celebrations Housewalk which is a tour of beautiful homes in the northwest suburban Inverness area. This event takes place every three years at which this year's housewalk was held on September 18, 2009. Please join us for our next housewalk in 2012. Other fundraisers have been fashion shows, luncheons, book reviews, BBQ pool parties, Destination USA Gala at Priester Aviation, The Breeder’s Cup Horse Racing event at Arlington Race Track, and April, 2008 the “Let’s Break the Curse” at a Wrigleyville Rooftop.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to those who enjoy volunteering, fundraising, and meeting very compassionate new friends while fostering the well-being of children. Meetings are held from September to May on the first Monday morning of each month which includes a yearly tour of the hospital or research center. If you are interested in joining the Guild and being part in the groundbreaking of a brand new Children’s Hospital, please contact Rosalie Giurato at (847) 991-9117 or (847) 902-2987 or Laurel Castaneda at LAUREL901@aol.com. You will be amazed that by offering only a small amount of your time significantly impacts so many children and their families.
