Ride for AIDS Chicago is a two-day, 190-mile, bicycling event produced by Test Positive Aware Network
to raise funds for HIV/AIDS services in the Chicago Area. Each rider and crew member are asked to raise a minimum of $1,000 and $500 in donations respectively. Since the Ride's inception in 2004, we remain dedicated to maintaining Ride for AIDS Chicago's successful record of returning nearly 100% of donations to ride beneficiaries. Now in its seventh year we anticipate the total amount returned to beneficiaries to reach $1 million!
Beneficiaries of the 2010 Ride for AIDS Chicago are:
Test Positive Aware Network
with Community Partners
AIDS Foundation of Chicago
About Face Theatre
Better Existence with HIV (BEHIV)
Housing Opportunities for Women
South Side Help Center
Youth Outlook
The ride journeys from Evanston, IL into southern Wisconsin. We'll start off from the city with an Opening Ceremony and soon after find a route of shaded bike paths and country roads. Along the way our teams of volunteer crew members support riders at pit stops stocked with water, energy snacks and sport drinks, as well as a dose of motivating fun. Mobile bike mechanics from Iron Cycles and volunteer sweep vehicles will be with you every stretch of the way.
After Day 1, you will have earned a refreshing jump in the lake at camp and a delicious dinner, followed by an evening of star-gazing or laughing with new friends at the campfire. You'll sleep on beds in one of the many cabins, waking up to a crisp Wisconsin morning while a hot breakfast awaits you in the dining hall.
After breakfast and watching the sunrise, Day 2 and your journey home will commence through the beautiful natural splendors of southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Upon returning to Evanston your friends and family will have the opportunity to celebrate your accomplishments at Closing Ceremonies.
First though you have to register for Ride for AIDS Chicago. Once registered, you will automatically receive "The Weekly Spoke," full of information on training, fundraising, and tips to keep you motivated in the months leading up to the Ride in July. To maximize training, fundraising and social support, we strongly encourage you to either join an existing team, or create a team for friends and colleagues to join. Both Riders and Crew may join a team.
Important registration notes:
Every registrant will have their own personal fundraising webpage. You can personalize your page at a later date, but you MUST keep the default option to "set up a personal sponsorship page."
If you are riding with a Community Partner Organization, you must register for that organization's team.
