Our Goal:

Amount Raised:
$100.00
Our Message:
Windy City Cycling Club members have biked many charitable rides, including this Ride for AIDS Chicago, yet on various disparate teams. In 2010, we are starting Team WCCC--our own team--to support this cause that is so heartfelt to so many of us. My partner died in 1994, before medicinal cocktails were available. Those of us in the Chicago gay community remember those years of everyday obituaries, memorials, and extraordinary loss that became a permanent scar on our human consciousness. Many of my positive friends from that era, who survived a few more years, had the benefit of exceptional drug therapy, yet many of them still died later. There are long-term survivors, but this disease is much worse than a chronic condition; it kills, and it often kills slowly and horrifically. My personal story doesn't include millions of persons with AIDS that missed our well-intentioned educational prevention efforts, or today’s youth yet to be reached. This disease does not discriminate, and the millions of persons with HIV worldwide need our unrelenting perseverance in finding a vaccine and a cure for AIDS. In the meantime, the many persons with AIDS in the Chicago community need the treatment options available only through TPAN and the beneficiaries of this event. Please consider a gift of the largest amount possible—every penny goes to the beneficiaries. –Clyde Alpert, Team WCCC captain and WCCC 2010 president
About Our Cause:
Over 25,000 individuals in the Chicago area are living with HIV, many of whom are not even aware of their HIV status. Ride for AIDS Chicago beneficiaries work with all impacted communities in the Chicago area, working to slow the spread of the virus and assure those infected receive proper medical and support services.
