A 1992 graduate of Notre Dame, LaPhonso Ellis is thrilled to be participating in this year’s Center for the Homeless’ Dancing with the Stars fundraiser! Starting in 1993 until his children’s schedules began dictating his own, he always looked forward to participating in the Center’s annual golf outing. But now he’s happily trading in his golf shoes for his dancing shoes, just as he traded in his basketball shoes five years ago to “love his wife and raise his kids” full time after being blessed with an eleven year career in the NBA. Currently, he is the color analyst for Notre Dame Men’s Basketball and is a partner in Ten Talents Productions, a company that produces Christian themed films for families.
Originally from Wisconsin, Amy O'Day began her lifelong dream of a career in dance 14 years ago. Within the first six months of teaching Amy became the studio manager and began competing professionally in the American Rhythm division. After meeting her future husband, Brian, at a dance convention in Acapulco, Amy moved to South Bend to teach and compete professionally. Throughout her career Amy has been awarded several top teacher awards. Together, Amy and Brian have competed professionally for the past 13 years in both the International Latin and American Smooth divisions. They have won numerous competitions throughout the country as well as placing in the top 18 Latin couples at the world’s largest competition, the Ohio Star Ball. Today, Amy and Brian own DanceSport On The Plaza where she continues to teach and perform while raising their three boys, which is her greatest love of all.
