"All in all you're just another brick in the wall." --Pink Floyd
World AIDS Day, December 1, 2008
The Wall is a metaphor for all of us. It represents the strength that comes with connection. And so we launch "Another Brick in the Wall" a grassroots campaign to support our expansion, and more importantly, the expansion of services available to the clients we serve.
Each brick in a wall of our new space represents a single client, or a staff member, a volunteer, a neighbor, a friend, relative, caregiver, lover, or a peer. "All we are is just another brick in the wall" yet together each supports the structure within which we combine our strengths, experiences, joys, sorrows, passions and resources to continue to make a difference as we begin our third decade of service to Chicago's HIV community.
True to our founding mission, all of the services we provide remain overwhelmingly peer-led, an approach which serves our clients with unparalleled expertise and empathy. TPAN has achieved a notable level of cost effectiveness, utilizing an annual budget of just over $3 million to serve more than 17,500 people a year through our spectrum of direct programming- HIV testing and counseling, prevention outreach, treatment education, psychosocial support, information and referral services, case management, clinical and alternative therapies, substance abuse services, and more. We also reach a nationwide audience of more than 85,000 through the distribution of our publications-Positively Aware Magazine and the Illinois HIV Services Directory.
It is a time of economic uncertainty for many of us, and this will drive even more of our community to seek services. This is not the time to stop giving, but rather to prioritize what we can give. TPAN's priority is to ensure we have the physical resources and services necessary to continue providing our clients with the level of support each needs.
Contribute to "Another Brick in the Wall", or contribute to this holiday appeal as you plan your year-end giving. Please visit us at http://www.tpan.com/ for more information on the work we do for your community, and we hope you'll join us for an Open House we'll be hosting early next year.
With continued hope and warmest wishes for the holidays,
Bill Farrand
Interim Executive Director
