Get your dancing shoes on! That's right. You heard us correctly. The Center for the Homeless is proud to introduce Dance for the Homeless! But what is a dance marathon, you ask? Quite simply, it's dancing, playing basketball, listening to live music, watching performances, and many other activities all crammed into a single 24 hour stand-a-thon for charity!

And helping kick it all off is the Center's good friend

Regis Philbin!

Who can Participate?

The short answer? Anyone! This is a community event. However, in order to be a dancer either individually or as a team, you must meet minimum fundraising requirements. If you are under 18, you must raise a minimum of $100. Those over 18 must raise a minimum of $250.

Spectators are Welcome!!

(Buy a Miracle Pass and dance as well!)

Dance for the Homeless takes place in the Student Center on the campus of Indiana University South Bend. This event will have security on site at all times, as well as a first aid station and restricted access to outsiders.

However -- and this is big -- from 6 pm to midnight, spectators are encouraged to purchase a Dance for the Homeless Miracle Pass. For $50, up to 10 people can be there for the main stage acts. Come see popular regional bands New Colossus, Blammo, Vyagra Falls and Stillshot perform! Regis will even be on hand to get the night underway! More acts will be announced as the date gets closer. You won't want to miss it!

Seriously, 24 hours??

Of course! It's totally possible. Dance marathons have been around since our parents were young. To encourage participants to stay the entire 24 hours, activities are planned throughout the marathon to ensure there will never be a dull moment. For example:

  • WAOR, The Bear, B100, and Power 95.7 will all broadcast their radio shows from the marathon for the entire 24 hours.
  • Participants will be entertained by live performances, games, bands, food and beverages and loads of other surprises.
  • The marathon will also have a signature line dance. Over the 24 hours, participants will learn the line dance, which will provide a needed source of energy for students while dancing throughout the night.
  • Finally, the marathon will conduct a “family hour” near the end of the event. Here, staff and guests of the Center for the Homeless will share their experiences – a personal and powerful end to an event designed to help break the cycle of homelessness.

As a dancer, there is no sleeping! However, dancers do have 13 meals throughout the 24 hours to relax, rest and recharge. Dance for the Homeless promises to be the event of the season. Don't miss your chance to be a part of it. For more information on the Center for the Homeless and the Dance for the Homeless dance marathon, visit danceforthehomeless.com.
