Dear Friends and Family,
Our family is once again participating the annual NOAH Bowl-a-thon! We ask you to join us in this cause, because NOAH has done so much for Lyra and our family.
When: February 20th, 2010 Where: College Lanes 10201 College Blvd Overland Park, Ks (Intersection of 169 & College) Time: 1:00-3:00 Price: $5.00 per game and $4.00 for shoes.
There are two bowling packages you may wish to take advantage of: -- $47.99 6 people on a lane, two hours of unlimited bowling, soda, popcorn, shoes. -- $57.99 6 people on a lane, two hours of unlimited bowling, soda, pizza, shoes. (FYI - none of the money spent on actual bowling, food, or video games at College Lanes goes to NOAH.)
If you are a member of a bowling team, get your team together and join us. Heck, get two teams together for a friendly rivalry match- and the losing team donates $50.00 per team member to NOAH! Even if you're not a member of bowling team, join us for a great time with food, family, and FUN!
Still not sure about donating? How about this: Donate 50 cents for every pin Troy (or the person of your choice) knocks down. For those of you that bowled last year (or have had the unfortunate experience of watching Troy bowl), you know that this isn't going to cost you much. Even if he reaches 100 (a rarity on most days) your donation is only 50.00. BUT... here's the catch- if he does reach 100, you need to add $10.00 to your donation!
Please RSVP to mashawnat@gmail.com if you plan to bowl, or visit http://www.events.org/noah/sponsorshipteams.aspx?event=24107&team=132 to join our team. If it's easier, you can also send your donation to:

---Lyra's Story--- Many of you have heard me say... "Lyra puts on a good act," in that many people have no idea that Lyra has any sort of visual impairment. There are others that know she has vision problems, but assume her vision is corrected to 20/20 as long as her glasses are on. The fact is, Lyra is legally blind and WITH her glasses on, her visual acuity is somewhere between 20/100 and 20/200. Mostly what Lyra misses out on, are the details in books, pictures, and the world... the details we take for granted. We go through life seeing the world in High-Definition (HDTV) while Lyra sees the world in Standard Definition.
It's really not as bad as it sounds though... and it is because of NOAH that we now understand that. In spite of her low vision, Lyra has been doing wonderfully in her development and learning. Lyra is a smart little cookie... and she is as happy and as ornery as any 3-year old could be. The support and knowledge we've gained through our NOAH membership and involve-ment with the organization has helped us help Lyra maximize her potential. NOAH has given us unlimited access to the latest and most comprehensive sources of information related to raising a child with albinism.
NOAH has provided so much support and advice for our family, and we want them to be able to continue to do that for other families. All of the proceeds from your donation will help another family like ours. We were able to attend the NOAH 2008 Conference in Las Vegas, NV two years ago because of generous donations from people like you. We'd like to be able to help another family attend the 2010 conference in Washington, DC.
NOAH is a 501(c)3 volunteer organization, so any donation is tax-deductible. ANY amount you donate is welcome! No donation is too small! Whether its loose change from your couch, or a $100 gift, be assured that your donation will directly impact the life of someone with albinism. You can help out in non-financial means as well. You can support our cause by bowling with us or just by spreading the word about our event.
Please show your support for Lyra by bowling with us or sending a gift to NOAH on Lyra's behalf. If you have any questions, please email mashawnat@gmail.com.
Thank you,
Troy and Mashawna Thompson
