Nearly three years ago, our son Nick learned about epilepsy. He knew his cousin Jenny had it, but distance kept that reality at bay. Then Danny Stanton came into our lives. Danny was a happy, athletic, silly, smart 4 year old...and so was Nick. A seizure killed Danny, snatching him while he slept in his bed. In the one place you think your child is safest, Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) took Danny, and our family like so many families was changed forever.
Third Grade Boy Skates 100 Miles
for Danny Did Foundation
So this summer and fall, Nick, a Mite Hockey player with the Glenview Stars NIHL organization, is ice skating 100 miles to benefit the foundation created in Danny’s name: the Danny Did Foundation. Five miles at a time, Nick will skate 100 miles in all. He’ll skate 50 miles forwards, and for the other 50 miles, he’ll skate backwards, like the good defenseman that he is. We want you to take this 100-mile journey with us, and we will keep Nick's skate schedule updated below.
Nick is happy to have Kevin Delaney, the skating coach for the Chicago Blackhawks, and Rob Emme, his Glenview coach, guiding him through the journey. His efforts have gained the support of Denis Savard, Duncan Keith and Brett Lebda, as well as coverage from Yahoo! Sports, Comcast SportsNet, NBC 5 Chicago, CBS2 Chicago and the Chicago Tribune. Special thanks to Butcher Boy Cooking Oils and Lundbeck for their sponsorship of Nick's campaign.
Please visit www.dannydid.org to learn more about Danny Did’s mission to prevent deaths caused by seizures. Nearly 3 million Americans battle the challenges of epilepsy, and up to 50,000 people die from seizure-related causes every year in the U.S.
Our 8 year-old boy is doing his part to fight back.
