CPR/AED/First Aid Training
Each year, CDS offers the American Red Cross certification program to every 9th grade student taking physical education.
All ninth graders will begin the CPR/AED/First Aid portion of their PE curriculum during the week of January 31. The certification course will be woven into the curriculum during regular 9th grade PE class time.
- This year's 10th grade students were not offered the option during their 9th grade school year due to Covid restrictions and have the option to take this course from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm on Friday, February 18.
There is no cost to CDS students for either of these trainings; however, there is an optional $32 fee for students who want to receive a card of certification.
While we hope that our students will never have to use the first aid skills they will be taught, it is good to know that they will be trained in case of an emergency.
CDS is able to offer this course thanks to an alumni family's generous donation. Harrison Kowiak was nineteen-years-old when he died as a result of a tragic incident that could have been prevented. He was on a full scholarship at university at the time and no one present knew CPR or thought to call 911. We thank the Kowiak family for their lasting legacy to student safety at CDS.
