2010 Dancing With Our Stars Miracle Auction
Hosted By: Center for the Homeless

Our 2010 Winning Dancers!!

The 2010 Dancing With Our Stars Miracle Auction is a multi-layered fundraiser that begins months in advance of April 23! As each dancer begins training, our auction committee is busy securing premium items for the premier silent and live auctions. We showcase these items here on our website and allow for pre-bidding. At the same time, our dancers begin soliciting votes. We keep close tabs on these early votes, keeping everyone up to date. This buildup leads to plenty of last-minute excitement as the level of competition rises! On the night of the auction, each dancer and professional partner will perform in front of the audience. Members of the audience can purchase votes throughout the night for their favorite dancer(s). Our award-winning auctioneers help keep this night moving smoothly by calling our live auction items in between dances. The dancer with the most total votes wins the coveted trophy!

Last year, our dancing event raised more than $250,000. What's phenomenal about this number is that $117,000 of it was from dancer votes! At $37 per vote, that equals 3,162 votes from friends, family and coworkers! The weeks leading up to this event-- not to mention the night itself-- is really just so much fun.

While this event is lighthearted, the reason for it is not. Every single night of the year, our 200-bed facility is at capacity. The need for Center services is greater than ever-- the number of people we are forced to turn away each week continues to increase, and as the economy continues to tighten, our fundraising efforts become more important.

Here's what our dancers from 2009 had to say.

"Dancing With Our Stars was a spectacular experience for me-- for so many reasons. First, the dancing itself was a blast! My instructor was so talented, so innovative-- and so patient. He made the practices fun, challenging, and exciting. Second, the fundraising was incredibly heartwarming-- each day I would receive emails about votes issued on my behalf, and I was constantly reminded just how many generous, thoughtful, and supportive people there are in this world and in my life. Finally, knowing that I was able to make a real difference for the Center for the Homeless, an organization I admire and love, was the best. I am forever grateful to the outstanding staff at the Center for this once in a lifetime opportunity." - Katie Anthony, Anthony Travel (2009 DWOS Champion)

"Being a part of DWOS is an experience that can be summed up in one word... amazing. Never in my life have I had so much fun supporting an organization I care about. You can get as much out of this whole process as you want. While it does take effort, the rewards simply cannot be adequately expressed-- you have to actually go through the process yourself to understand." - Mike Charbonneau, NIPSCO

"To be a part of Dancing With Our Stars is truly an honor to have been involved in. It is one of the events in my life I will always look back on with very fond memories." - Pamela Mullin, Junior League of South Bend

"My experience with Dancing With Our Stars was a delight! Although my schedule is hectic (whose isn't?), I really looked forward to dance lessons. They were a great break from routine and a great workout. The night of the event was electric. The audience and other dancers were supportive. There was a great sense of accomplishment at the end. It may be the closest I'll ever get to the feeling in the Olympics." - Steve Luecke, Mayor of South Bend
