Hosting an outdoor concert is a tradition at KSUT that dates back 16 years. Venues and names of the event have changed, but it's always been a party ... And most years in Buckley Park! This year's Party in the Park, sponsored by Bank of the San Juans, features one of the funkiest bands ever to call Colorado home.
Music and escapism go hand-in-hand. A concert or an album can unlock another world, if you let it. The Motet respect and revere this time-honored phenomenon. Fusing fiery funk, simmering soul, and improvisational inventiveness, the Denver-based seven-piece — Lyle Divinsky (vocals), Dave Watts (drums), Joey Porter (keyboards), Garrett Sayers (bass), Ryan Jalbert (guitar), Parris Fleming (trumpet) and Drew Sayers (saxophone) — have continually provided an escape for listeners over the course of seven full-length albums since 1998, including their latest release, "Totem." Four Corners audiences have caught them numerous times at concerts in Durango and festivals in Pagosa Springs, Silverton, Telluride and beyond.
Also on the bill is Afrobeatniks, a jazz, Latin and world group from Mancos, Durango and across the Four Corners. We'll be selling beer from Ska Brewing, cocktails from Durango Craft Spirits, wines from Wagon Wheel Liquors, and soft drinks from Coca-Cola of Durango. There'll also be plenty of food options as well, or bring your own picnic with you. No dogs, outside alcohol or glass allowed.
The Party in the Park is sponsored by Bank of the San Juans.
Special thanks to Ska Brewing, Durango Craft Spirits, Wagon Wheel Liquors, Coca-Cola of Durango and the City of Durango.
