Some of our 2009 Auction highlights:
An Instant Wine Cellar
Back by popular demand, an Instant Wine Cellar is a part of this year's Miracle Auction! Each bottle in this incredible package was donated by a community member and comes with a note describing the bottle’s special meaning to the donor. The winning bidder will receive the entire wine inventory, along with a fabulous dinner for eight prepared by Chef Tim Carrigan. Each bottle has a minimum value of $20. (Shipping arrangements can be made upon request. Some restrictions apply.)
A Special Tour of the Vatican
This is a must-do package for anyone with an interest in the Vatican. The winning bidder and a guest will travel to Rome and stay at a hotel courtesy of a generous travel package. Once there, the benefits unfold. Included in this once-in-a-lifetime package is a personal Scavi tour of the excavations below St. Peter's Basilica. Given the unique location of the Vatican necropolis, a visit to these excavations is a privilege accorded to visitors by the Excavations Office. A personal tour of St. Peter's Basilica and front-of-the-line admission to the Vatican Museum are also a part of this experience. Tickets to the Wednesday general audience of the Papal Mass, weekday Mass in the Crypt and a visit to John Paul II's tomb are also included. Enjoy lunch on us at the Columbus Hotel and a rooftop dinner at L'Etoile. Taxi transfer to Rome from the airport is included. This package is truly a Miracle Auction highlight. (Every effort will be made to provide these opportunities or alternative.)
Breaking the cycle of homelessness for 20 years
While this event is lighthearted, the reason for it is not. Every single night of the year, our 200-bed residential facility is at capacity. The need for Center services is greater than ever.
The Center for the Homeless began 20 years ago, when a local hotel that more than 100 impoverished citizens called home burned to the ground in the middle of winter. Our community came together in an incredible way. Within one week, 17 busloads of resources and hundreds of willing volunteers were available to help.
Today, the Center has served more than 44,000 men, women and children, not only by providing them with a meal and a warm bed for the night, but also by linking them up with the programs, agencies and people who can help them break the cycle of homelessness. Events like the Dancing with Our Stars Miracle Auction are extremely important to our mission. More than 85 percent of our funding comes from private donations. It takes a community to break the cycle of homelessness. Please join us.
