Reverse Glass Painting Tuesdays - August 20th, 27th & September 3rd, and 10th
Students will explore the techniques of reverse painting. They will learn about color theory and explore a variety of painting techniques, which they will apply to create their own portrait. 

Dale Chihuly Inspired Sculpture  Tuesdays- September 24th & October 1st, 8th
Students will watch artist Dale Chihuly at work and learn a little about the process of blowing glass. They will experiment with creating forms in a similar way by coloring, stretching, bending, and forming plastic material. After creating a variety of forms, students will put them together to create a sculpture in the likeness of Chihuly. Students will learn to use positive and negative space and balance in their final sculptural arrangement. This is a very fun, hands on workshop for any level and the end results are stunning.

 The Color Express offers painting on canvas classes through step by step instructions.  Children will learn many techniques such as blending, shading, mixing colors and how to take care of their brushes.  Each 4 weeks your child will take home a 16 x 20 canvas masterpiece!  All supplies are included:  Canvas, Easels, Aprons, Paints, Brushes, etc.

 Athletic Director, Baker Mabry, will be coaching CDS Elementary Patriot Intramural Sports - "Taking it to the Next Level" this year. The Intramural Sports Program is designed to build skills and create interest in Basketball, Flag Football, Volleyball and Soccer.

Session 1 will be Girls and Boys Flag Football. There will be a 1st - 3rd grade division and a 4th - 5th grade division. The divisions will meet at the SAME TIME.

 CDS partners with Karate Clubs to bring karate lessons to CDS. The after-school karate program develops physical fitness and body control as well as emphasizes respect, discipline, courtesy, and personal responsibility.  Classes consist of non-contact activities such as focus drills, skill building games, exercise activities and basic Shotokan karate techniques.

The fee includes an annual testing fee, and a showcase/tournament (non contact) fee.  In addition, students will be asked to order a karate uniform after the second class which will cost $40. They are tested in May annually to see if they have progressed to the next level, and are given stripes to put on their uniform. 

The class will be taught by an instructor from Mark Pinner Karate Clubs.

All students must complete the "Acknowledgement of Risk and Waiver of Liability" and return to CDS and/or MPKC.

 Nexplore Makers Club is an engineering program designed to inspire kids to pursue futures in science & technology. Students interact with fun Maker Kits that enhance mechanical, artistic, and engineering skills, while encouraging them to act as inventors in their own right. Participants design their own hydraulic claws, learn to harness energy to power race cars, and experiment with structural design. Plus, students can keep their inventions and proudly share their projects with family and friends. Nexplore Makers Club is fully aligned with Next Generation Science Standards, and reminds kids to always explore, experiment, and create.  Zumba® Kids is a fun, high-energy fitness class packed with specially choreographed routines and games for children using the latest music and rhythms like hip-hop, reggaeton, cumbia, and salsa. Zumba® Kids classes inspire kids to express themselves through movement and play while effectively improving overall health and well-being. Educators love Zumba® Kids because of the effects it has on children: increasing focus, building self-confidence, enhancing creativity and coordination, boosting metabolism and implementing teamwork skills. Each class is headed by a trained and license Zumba® Kids fitness instructor. Classes not only include music and dance, but arts, crafts and cultural education, as well. It is a fun way for kids to keep healthy and motivated!
