Members of the Tribe
In this six-session quest, we'll dive deep into a fundamental, challenging question for Members of the Tribe: "What is the overarching purpose of living Jewishly?" Together we'll examine aspects of what might be considered the Jewish mission, a blend of practices that distinguish us as Jews, and what to do with this idea of being called the "Chosen People." Prepare to explore how Big Jewish Ideas and lessons from our history serve to enrich our actions as individuals and as a people.

Vayikra (Leviticus): A Call to Holiness
Chosen by the rabbinic sages as the first book to initiate children to Bible learning, contemporary readers often perceived Vayikra as inaccessible. Yet, embedded in the laws that focus on the prescribed sacrificial practices, laws of ritual impurity and purity, and the pursuit of holiness are messages and values that have relevance to the universal condition. In our study of Vayikra, we will examine themes including the role of rituals, responding to tragedy, confronting birth and parenthood, seeking forgiveness, balancing the place of the individual and the community, bringing sanctity into one's daily life, and more. Through a textual study of selected passages, this course uncovers the depth and wisdom of the third book of the Torah and reveals its enduring messages that touch our lives to this very day. Day: Tuesdays beginning on March 23, 2021 - May 25, 2021 (10 weeks)
Time: 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Faculty: Rabbi Shana Chandler
Location: Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center, 1434 N. Altadena Dr., Pasadena, CA or via Zoom, tbd
